Your business

A rough figure shapes the plan and price we send.

Your site, what you have tried, and your budget.

  • No charge for the price
  • Handled by us alone
  • Takes a minute or two

Who you would be dealing with

Your enquiry is read by EPOS system for retail

EPOS system for retail runs this site and does the work itself. What you send is read by the person who would do it, and is never passed to a panel of other firms or sold on.

What getting your tills ready involves

A gift shop, a hardware store and a boutique each need something different from a till, so your price ticks off only the parts below that apply.

  • Shortlisting suppliers

We compare EPOS options against your range, number of tills, card processing terms and contract length, so the monthly and upfront costs sit side by side before you choose.

  • Products and barcodes

Your range loaded with prices, categories, variants such as size and colour, and barcodes, so staff scan instead of typing and the shelf price matches the till.

  • Stock control

Opening counts, low-stock alerts and supplier details set up, so you can see what is selling and reorder before a best-seller runs out on a Saturday.

  • Card payments

The card terminal paired with the till and the payment settings tested end to end, so takings reconcile at close without adding up by hand.

  • Staff log-ins

A log-in for each member of staff, with refunds, discounts and the cash drawer limited to the people who should have them.

  • Reports and your accountant

Daily takings, best-seller and margin reports set up, with sales passed to your accounting software wherever the chosen system supports it.

The process

  1. Tell us what you sell, how many tills you need and what, if anything, sits on your counter today.
  2. We study your range and the way you trade, then reply with one fixed figure for our work, noting the supplier costs that come on top of it.
  3. Then it is your decision, ideally made before you sign with a supplier, so the set-up is part of the plan from the start.

The team that runs this site also does the work it quotes for. It carries no advertising, no sponsored placement and no affiliate links, and no provider in the table has paid to be there or can pay to be removed. Every figure is read from the named provider's own public page on the date shown and is what that provider advertises, not a quote for your job. Prices move; check the source before you rely on a row.

Every provider below was read on its own page through our fetch box, and the row says what that page published on the day we read it. 3 of 37 publish a figure; the rest are listed too, because how many will not quote a number is the most useful thing about this market. Nothing here is a quote for your job: it is what other people advertise.

How these figures were read, and how to cite them

Every row is a verbatim sentence read from the named source's own page through our fetch service on the date shown, hash-pinned to the stored read (the sha of the page's visible text; the raw page is mirrored to R2). 3 of the 37 named sources that could be read published a usable figure; 34 published none and are recorded as not published, never filled in; 14 could not be read (blocked, dead or unreachable) and count nowhere. The headline figures (median, minimum, maximum, quartiles) are over ONE figure per source in GBP (a source's median where its page yielded several accepted sentences), so N counts sources, never sentences; 242 candidate sentence(s) were refused by a reviewer with the reason recorded. Derivation as chartered: the true monthly cost of a till, which NO vendor publishes as one number: software per terminal + hardware amortised over the term the vendor actually sells (outright, rental or lease) + the card rate the vendor bundles, joined per vendor and per tier from the vendor's own pages; the median, range and quartiles of the published entry software price across every vendor that publishes one; the SHARE of the UK vendor universe that publishes no figure at all, which is the market's own answer to the buyer's question and which no comparison site measures across the whole set; the cheapest published total at a stated card turnover, where a free-software vendor on 1.75% crosses a paid-software vendor on a lower rate; and repriced-since the previous read

Questions, answered directly

How much does an EPOS system for retail cost?

Only 3 of the 37 EPOS suppliers we read show a monthly price on their own site: £8, £24 and £145 a month, which makes the median published figure £24. The other 34 ask you to request a quote. Those are the suppliers' own charges for software or rental; our price covers the set-up work and is fixed once we know your shop.(UK EPOS Price Index)

Do you set up EPOS for independent retailers?

Yes, that is who the set-up is for: an independent retail shop with one till or several, whether it is a gift shop, a hardware store or a boutique. We shortlist the retail EPOS systems that fit your range and card terms, then load the products, barcodes, stock and staff log-ins.

Is an EPOS till different from a till system for retail?

An EPOS till is a till system for retail that also keeps the stock, the product list and the card payments in software, so the shelf price, the stock count and the takings come from one record instead of being added up by hand at close.

What should I tell you so you can price the set-up?

What you sell and roughly how many product lines, how many tills and card terminals you want, whether you also sell online, and any system you are replacing. If you already have a supplier in mind, say which.

Will you pass my details to EPOS suppliers?

No. We operate this site and read your enquiry ourselves. Your contact details are not forwarded to suppliers, sales teams or anyone else.

How long before a new till system is up and running?

A single shop with a modest range can often be trading on the new system a few weeks after choosing it, once the hardware has arrived. Large ranges, several tills or stock moving from an old system add time, and the price we send lays out the order of work.

How is the set-up price worked out?

By the size of your range, the number of tills and staff, the data coming across and the connections needed, such as your accounts or an online shop. The hardware and monthly software charges come from the supplier and are quoted by them.
